Do you like Chloe Sevigny and Natasha Lyonne? Have you always wished that they’d make a movie that was a mixture of Rosemary’s Baby, Requiem for a Dream, and the delightfully creepy British children’s show Boobah? Well friends, you are in luck, because they did and it’s called Antibirth, and I watched it last night. I adore Natasha Lyonne and Chloe Sevigny, and didn’t hesitate to click play. I could literally watch them watch paint dry and love every second of it.
I don’t want to tell you too much because I want you to experience every amazingly weird moment this movie offers and every “what the fuck?” you’ll audibly say. So this will be pretty vague, but convincing.
Lou is your typical binge drinking, whippet huffing, backwoods Michigan girl until one wild night that she can’t remember. Her body starts changing, things start oozing, and she starts getting visions straight out of a Tim and Eric-style acid trip. She discovers she is pregnant, but who or what caused this invasion of her womb? Well folks, you’ll have to watch to find out and believe me, you’ll never see it coming.
This was Danny Perez’s first full length film – he made two shorts and a visual album for Animal Collective previously. I will definitely watch for whatever weirdness he creates next, because if it is anything like this, I’ll totally be into it.
It was Rosemary’s Baby through the eyes of a dope fiend.
